The transformation of Castelló through the Integrated Sustainable Urban Development Strategy (ISUDS – EDUSI in its Spanish acronym) connects directly with Europe. In fact, 50% of the funding that makes this qualitative leap possible in the urban fabric and the quality of life of citizens comes from the European Regional Development Funds (ERDF – FEDER in its Spanish acronym). It aims to promote economic and social cohesion in the European Union (EU) by correcting imbalances between its regions.
The ERDF is one of the five Structural and Investment Funds (ESIF) of the EU, along with the European Social Fund (ESF), the Cohesion Fund, the European Agricultural Fund for Regional Development (EAFRD) and the European Maritime and Fisheries Fund (EMFF). More than half of the EU funds is channelled through this investment group of five components jointly managed by the European Commission and the EU countries. They are all intended to invest in job creation and in a healthy and sustainable European economy and environment.
